Centennial Moments: Men's Ice Hockey Takes Over Fenway Park

BABSON PARK, Mass.—One of the most successful programs in Babson College history, men's ice hockey made history when it participated in the first Division III game at historic Fenway Park as part of Sun Life Frozen Fenway on January 13, 2012.

The Beavers, who got on the board first thanks to an Andrew Bonazza's '15 first-period goal, suffered a 4-1 loss to then-top-ranked and unbeaten Norwich in front of 7,250 people inside the iconic ballpark. The Green and White followed up the setback with a seven-game unbeaten streak and went 6-1-4 over its final 11 regular season games on the way to finishing third in the ECAC East regular season standings.

The 2012 contest was the first of three that Babson has played inside Fenway Park. The Beavers faced Norwich again in a battle of top-10 teams in 2014, and also faced UMass Boston as part of the 2017 festivities at Fenway Park.

Babson is the only Division III squad to play three times inside Fenway Park, and has played the most outdoor games of any Division III program since the NCAA began tracking these contests in 2001.
