A native of Stowe, Vermont, Clayton Reed is currently in his second season as head coach of men's and women's alpine ski teams. In his first year at the helm of the program, he helped guide the men's team to its second straight USCSA National Championship appearance and its fourth in the last five years. Along the way, the Beavers posted a second-place finish at the ECSC Eastern Regional Championships - the best in program history.
Reed graduated in 2008 from Middlebury College, where he majored in Economics and minored in Environmental Studies. As a member of the Panthers' varsity ski team, he was named First Team All-East in 2005 and Second Team All-East in 2006. He also competed at the NCAA Championships in three straight seasons between 2005 and 2007. In addition to his competitive success, Reed has served as a coach and mentor at the Sugarbush Ski Club in Vermont and as a coach at the Win Alpine Summer Ski Camp in Mount Hood, Oregon.
While at Middlebury, Reed also worked as an operations intern at
EnerNOC in Boston, and in 2006 he co-wrote an economic analysis on
carbon neutrality at the Middlebury Snow Bowl, which has since
become the first carbon neutral ski area in the United States.
