BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three members of the Babson College women's track and field team competed at the 2011 ECAC Championships hosted by Moravian College on Friday. Sophomore Charlotte Margel (Ridgewood, N.J.) made her second straight appearance at the event, while junior Michelle Black (San Diego, Calif.) and first-year Imani Smith (Fort Mill, S.C.) each made their ECAC debut.
After failing to finish the 10,000 meter run due to injury at last year's ECAC Championships, Margel qualified again this spring in both the 10,000 and 5000 meter events. Forgoing Friday's 10k in favor of Saturday's shorter race, Margel finished 16th overall in the 5000 meter run with a final time of 18:27.62 – the second fastest time in Babson history behind only her own program record of 18:22.12 set earlier this season.
Joining Margel in the 5000 meters was Black, who was making the first ECAC appearance of her stellar career. She finished 29th overall in the event, posting a time of 19:07.75 – her third fastest ever and the 16th fastest in program history.
Also making her first trip to the ECACs was Smith, who capped off her spectacular rookie season by recording the team's top finish at the competition. Smith ran a personal best time of 1:05.61 in the 400 meter intermdeiate hurdles, placing her 14th overall. It was the third fastest time in Babson history in the event.
