Men's Track & Field Picked Fifth In NEWMAC Preseason Poll
BOSTON, Mass.—After recording its most points at the conference meet since 2002 last season, the Babson College men's track & field team came in fifth in the first-ever New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) preseason poll, which was released on Friday.
MIT, which has won 13 straight league titles, collected all six first-place votes and sits atop the poll. Coast Guard and WPI finished tied for second, Springfield was fourth, followed by the Beavers in fifth, and Wheaton rounding out the poll in sixth place.
The Green and White returns 14 letterwinners from a team that notched 35 points to finish fifth at the 2013 NEWMAC Championship. Senior Brian deLeon (Princeton, N.J.), who holds the program record in the 3000 meters, and junior Mark Gulesian (Miami, Fla.), who earned all-conference accolades after finishing in the 1500 meters last spring, were both part of the record-setting 4x800 relay team in 2013. Junior Steven Comery (Coventry, R.I.) is coming off a strong season as well after setting a new program mark in the 200 meters.
Babson opens its season at Bridgewater State on Saturday, March 22.
