The Babson College men’s and women’s track and field teams have both been named to the 2010 Division III All-Academic Track and Field Teams as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) earlier this week. In order to be eligible for this award, teams must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.1 or higher. “In a sport that is results driven, you really have to be focused on your goals,” said head coach Russ Brennen. “It is great to see that the Babson teams can apply the same philosophies in the classroom that they do on the track and be able to achieve such great success.” [+]

The Babson College track and field program saw the end of an era on Friday, as senior captain Lauren Blackburn (York, Maine) concluded her spectacular career at the Last Chance Qualifier Meet at MIT. Competing in the 400 meter hurdles, Blackburn placed third out of four competitors with a time of 1:05.56 – her fastest time of the season, the second fastest of her career, and only a second shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Over the last four years, Blackburn has rewritten the Babson track and field record books. She departs as the program’s all-time record holder in six different events – five individual and one relay. She holds the school mark of 1:02.79 in the 400 meters, 2:22.01 in the 800 meters, 15.97 in the 100 hurdles, 1:05.04 in the 400 hurdles, and 3857 points in the heptathlon, in which she begin competing this spring. In addition, she was a member of this year’s record-setting 4x400 meter relay team, which set a new program mark of 4:17.23 with Blackburn running anchor. [+]

One of three athletes representing Babson College, senior captain Lauren Blackburn (York, Maine) made history at the 2010 ECAC New England Track and Field Championships at Springfield College on Thursday and Friday, as she finished fourth overall and earned All-ECAC honors in the heptahlon. In her final collegiate season but her first competing in the event, Blackburn placed fourth and broke her own program record by scoring 3857 total points. A five-time qualifier for the ECACs across three events, she joins Katie Collins as the only female All-ECAC selections in program history, while her fourth-place finish is the best ever by a Babson woman at the competition.
