BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Babson college men’s and women’s cross country teams have been honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for academic success by earning a spot on the 2009 USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country All- Academic Teams list.
In order to be eligible for this award, a team needs to have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA regional meet and must have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average. The Babson men’s team compiled a team GPA of 3.32 and the women a GPA of 3.38.
The Beavers have been a mainstay on the All-Academic Team for more than a decade. For the men’s program, this marks the 10th All-Academic honor in the last 14 seasons, while the women have been selected seven times in the last 16 years.
Members of this year's men's team include junior Jared Bartlett (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), sophomore Varun Bhandari (Andover, Mass./Andover), sophomore Justin Bowman (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North), junior Jordan Bray (Henderson, Nev./Bishop Gorman), sophomore Kwami Chambers-Powell (Middletown, Conn./Middletown), sophomore Kyle Fitzpatrick (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview), first-year Mark Irwin (Essex, Vt./Essex), sophomore Andrew Oram (Northborough, Mass./Marlborough), first-year Chris Pierce (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), sophomore Mike Smith (Brockton, Mass./Brockton), and first-year Jake Williams (Scaggsville, Md./Reservoir).
Members of the women's squad include first-year Trisha Bakeman (Brooksville, Maine/George Stevens Academy), sophomore Michelle Black (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo), senior Lauren Blackburn (York, Maine/York), sophomore Colleen Carr (Brewer, Maine/Brewer), sophomore Wendy Glickenhouse (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook), first-year Jessica Lack (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), senior Kristen Lang (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk), senior Vanessa Lovering (Hollis, N.H./Hollis-Brookline), first-year Charlotte Margel (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood), and sophomore Emiley McCole (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater).
