This fall the Babson athletic teams not only performed on the field and in the classroom, but they also gave back to the community in many different ways. Several teams participated in community service events that benefited many organizations including the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and the Jimmy Fund. Im extremely proud of everything our athletes have done and continue to do within the community, said Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur. These young men and women have tremendous demands on their time and energy, and yet they still make the effort to give back in whatever way they can. They genuinely thrive on touching the lives of others, and in doing so they serve as wonderful ambassadors for Babson College and our athletics program. [+]

The Babson College cross country teams closed out their 2009 season at the NCAA Division III New England Championships at the Twin Brooks course on Saturday. Despite running without top runner Charlotte Margel, the women still managed to improve six spots from a year ago, finishing 33rd out of 47 scoring teams. Meanwhile, the men's squad came in 29th out of 48 scoring squads. The top run of the day was turned in by Babson sophomore Michelle Black, who recorded a huge personal record in placing 101st overall. Her time of 24:30 was the eighth fastest 6k effort in Babson history, and the second fastest by a Babson runner on at Twin Brooks behind only Lydia Halloran's run of 23:43 in 2004. The women's team also received excellent runs from senior Vanessa Lovering, who placed 170th with a time of 25:50 - the 21 quickest 6k run in team history - and Colleen Carr, who finished 203rd in 26:23. On the men's side, sophomore Kyle Fitzpatrick recorded the Beavers' top finish in 121st place with a time of 27:37, followed by sophomore Mike Smith in 136th with a run of 27:58. [+]
