O'Brien Named NEWMAC Co-Pitcher of the Week

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- After a historic performance on the mound against Wentworth, Babson College junior lefthander Michael O'Brien (Shrewsbury, Mass.) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Co-Pitcher of the Week along with WPI ace Conor Fahey.

In two appearances this week, O'Brien went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, giving up no runs, no walks, just six hits, and striking out 20 in 10 1/3 innings of work. On Monday, he tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in a 5-4 loss to #3 Wheaton, allowing two hits and fanning two.

Just three days later, O'Brien returned to the mound and turned in perhaps the most dominant pitching performance in Babson history, firing a four-hit shutout while striking out a school-record 18 batters in a 3-0 win over Wentworth. The Leopards had entered the game with a record of 20-8-1 on the season.

For the season, O'Brien has now amassed a record of 3-1 with a team-leading 2.34 ERA, giving up just nine earned runs and striking out 40 in 34 2/3 innings.
