O’Toole, Aizenstadt Receive NEWMAC Baseball Weekly Honors

BABSON PARK, Mass. - After helping the Beavers sweep the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball championship tournament, Babson junior Peter O'Toole (Salem, Mass.) has been named NEWMAC player of the week and sophomore Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.) has been named NEWMAC pitcher of the week.

Babson was a perfect 4-0 in the tournament, registering two wins over MIT and two more over nationally-ranked and defending NEWMAC champion Wheaton. The Beavers, by virtue of the conference tournament championship, have earned the NEWMAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships which will be played in mid-May.

O'Toole helped lead the Beavers to their second NEWMAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth with a huge offensive week, batting .400 with two doubles, two homers, four runs, and five RBIs in the team's four tournament games. He went 3-for-4 with a double, a run, and an RBI in Babson's opening 5-4 win over MIT on Thursday, and followed that up with a 2-for-6 effort with a double and a run in a 13-9 win over Wheaton on Friday. Then on Saturday, the junior centerfielder hit the go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth in an 8-7 victory over Wheaton to finish off a 2-for-5 performance. O'Toole capped off the week with another two-run home run in the championship game, as Babson defeated MIT, 6-3.

Aizenstadt made two appearances during Babsons' 2009 NEWMAC Tournament Championship run, going 1-0 with a save, a 0.00 ERA, one walk and eight strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings. He went seven innings and allowed three unearned runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out seven in a 5-4 victory over MIT in the Beavers' first game on Thursday. He then came on to pitch 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and fanning one, to earn the save in Babson's Championship Game victory over MIT on Sunday. Aizenstadt is now 6-1 with one save and a 2.18 ERA for the season.
