Arena, Gill Named to NEWMAC All-Conference Squad

BOSTON—Coming off its first conference tournament championship since 2009, the Babson College baseball team had two players named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference teams on Monday.

Junior Ryan Arena (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) garnered first-team honors, while sophomore Connor Gill (Sterling, Mass.) was named to the second team.

After seeing action in just 24 games over his first two seasons, Arena has had a breakout campaign this spring batting .346 with 12 doubles, 12 home runs, 29 runs scored and 30 runs batted in. He set a single-season school record and ranked second in the league in homers, while also finishing second in the NEWMAC in slugging percentage (.731), fourth in total bases (95), and seventh in doubles. Arena, who has reached base safely in 28 consecutive games, was at his best in conference play, batting .406 with 10 doubles, six homers and 15 RBI to go along with a .844 slugging percentage.

Gill was one of the top pitchers in the NEWMAC this spring going 3-0 with two complete games and one shutout in four starts during league play. He tossed 31.0 innings and posted a 2.61 earned run average to go along with 23 strikeouts. Gill went at least six innings in all four starts and allowed more than three earned runs just once. Overall this spring, he is 4-0 with a 3.08 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 38.0 innings on the mound, and has six extra-base hits and has driven in 10 runs in 23 games as a second baseman.

Babson (25-13), which won a share of the league's regular season title, will learn where it is headed for the NCAA Tournament next Monday, May 15.
