Baseball Carrying Success on the Diamond into the Summer

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Following a historic 2017 campaign that featured a school-record 29 wins, a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament championship, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament Harwich Regional title game, members of the Babson College baseball squad have continued their success on the diamond this summer.

Five players were selected to their respective league all-star games, and the trio of rising seniors Ryan Arena (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Teddy Carey (Upton, Mass.) and rising junior Michael Genaro (Greenwich, Conn.) has produced solid results in two well-known New England summer leagues. Carey has gone 2-2 with 26 strikeouts in 25.2 innings for the Plymouth Pilgrims of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), while Arena has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games and is batting .269 with five doubles, three home runs and 17 RBI for the Pittsfield Suns of Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). Genaro, who fanned six over eight innings in his last start, is 2-0 with a 3.89 ERA, 18 strikeouts and just three walks in 34.2 innings pitched for his FCBL squad, the Bristol Blues.

Rising junior Edward Lehr (Byram Township, N.J.), who tossed a two-hitter in his final start of the 2017 campaign to help the Beavers down Suffolk in an NCAA Tournament elimination game, has pitched well for the Jersey Pilots of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL). He is 2-3 overall and ranks first in innings pitched (48.2), fourth in strikeouts (38) and sixth in earned run average (3.14), which he has lowered by more than a run over his last five appearances.
