BABSON PARK, Mass.—Following a historic 2017 campaign that ended with the program's first NCAA Tournament regional final appearance, the Babson College baseball team is ranked 33rd in the Collegiate Baseball Division III preseason poll, which was released on Wednesday night.
The Beavers were one of six New England teams to appear in the Collegiate Baseball top-40 after reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009 last spring. Under the direction of head coach Matt Noone, the Green and White won a single-season school-record 13 consecutive games between April 22-May 18, collected a share of its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season crown since 2011, and captured its first league tournament championship since 2009 with a sweep of MIT.
Following a 13-13 start, Babson finished the year at 29-15 overall, and defeated a trio of nationally-ranked teams before falling to UMass Boston in the Harwich Regional final. The Beavers, who set a new program record for wins in 2017, return seven of their top nine position players and all but one of their top nine pitchers.
The Green and White opens the season against Otterbein in Port Charlotte, Fla., on March 2.
