WESTWOOD, Mass.—After picking up three wins in four games over the weekend in Florida, the Babson College baseball team picked up a pair of honors from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on Monday afternoon. Junior Brian McHale (Ramsey, N.J.) was selected as the league's player of the week, while classmate Connor Gill (Sterling, Mass.) was tabbed as the pitcher of the week.
McHale batted .389 (7-for-18) with two doubles, a triple, two RBI and three runs scored over the four games. He went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in Friday's 4-0 win over Otterbein, and had three hits, including a pair of doubles as the Beavers split a pair of games on Saturday. On Sunday, he extended his hitting streak to 15 games and scored once as the Beavers knocked off previously unbeaten Baldwin Wallace, 6-5.
Gill was superb in his first start of the year tossing seven shutout innings to help Babson defeat Otterbein, 4-0, on opening day. He allowed just a pair of singles while striking out two and walking one, and retired the final seven batters he faced to win his seventh consecutive decision.
Babson (3-1) is slated to host Massachusetts Maritime on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before heading back to Florida for seven games in six days starting on March 16.
