May 28, 2008
BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) recently announced its All-Region honorees, and Babson College senior Steve Tahmoush (Arlington, Mass.), senior Matt Delaney (Newton, Mass.), and first-year Andrew Aizenstadt (Norwell, Mass.) were all recognized. Tahmoush and Delaney were each named to the All-New England Second Team, while Aizenstadt was named to the All-Region Third Team.
Tahmoush received All-New England honors for the second straight year after a brilliant spring in which he hit .373 with team-highs of 62 hits, three triples, five homers, 47 runs, and a program-record 21 stolen bases. He also recorded six doubles and 30 RBIs while posting a .986 fielding percentage in Babson's notoriously difficult right field. In addition to setting the single-season record, Tahmoush graduated as Babson's all-time leader with 55 career stolen bases. The regional honor comes on the heels of his second straight All-NEWMAC First Team selection.
Delaney also turned in a spectacular senior campaign, batting .377 with 60 hits, 16 doubles, one triple, four homers, 36 runs scored, and 37 RBIs in 40 games. With four hits in the team's season-ending doubleheader against Tufts, he became Babson's new all-time leader with 199 hits in his career. Also a First Team All-NEWMAC selection, Delaney garnered All-New England status for the first time in his career.
Aizenstadt was sensational in his rookie season, going 5-1 with a 2.82 ERA. He allowed just 37 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 36 strikeouts in 51 innings while also tossing a one-hit shutout against WPI. In addition to his All-New England Third Team selection, the hard-throwing righthander was also named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and All-Conference First Team.
