Men's Basketball Ranked Third in Preseason Poll

Beavers Earn Highest Ranking in Program History Entering 2016-17 Season

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College men's basketball team was ranked third when released its preseason top 25 poll on Monday afternoon.

Amherst, which defeated the Beavers on its way to the national semifinals last winter, claimed the top spot in the poll, followed by another 2016 Final Four participant in Christopher Newport. St. Norbert and Tufts came in fourth and fifth, while last year's runner-up Benedictine was sixth. Wooster, Ohio Wesleyan, Whitman and defending national champions St. Thomas round out the top 10.

Babson, which reached sectional semifinals of last year's NCAA Tournament, enters the 2016-17 season with its highest ranking in program history after going 23-6 last winter. The Green and White returns all five starters and 11 players in all, led by reigning National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), Hero Sports and DIII News Player of the Year Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.).

The senior wing averaged 23.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 28 games while becoming the program's all-time leading scorer last year. Flannery is joined by senior Isaiah Nelsen (North Andover, Mass.), who earned All-Northeast region honors last season after averaging 16.0 points and 8.6 rebounds, and classmate Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.), who contributed 7.7 points and shot 40 percent from beyond the arc.

Babson, which has won 20 or more games in three straight seasons under the direction of 22nd-year head coach Stephen Brennan, opens the 2016-17 campaign against Albertus Magnus at 7 p.m. on November 15 at Staake Gymnasium.
