BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College senior Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) was named to the D3hoops.com preseason All-America first team for the second consecutive season on Thursday night.
Flannery was joined on the first team by seniors Ty Sabin of Ripon and AJ Edwards of Marietta, as well as juniors Nate Axelrod of Ohio Wesleyan and Alex Sorenson of North Central (Ill.).
The reigning National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III Player of the Year, Flannery averaged 23.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists as the Beavers went 23-6 and reached sectional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament last winter. He shot 44.2 percent from the floor and 83.8 percent from the free throw line on his way to becoming the school's all-time leading scorer in Babson's first round national tournament victory over Hartwick.
A two-time D3hoops.com first-team All-American and three-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year, Flannery has averaged 21.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists over his first three seasons. In addition to being the program's career scoring leader with 1,870 points, he is first in school history in made free throws (521), fifth in made field goals (611), sixth in three-point field goals (127) and 14th in rebounds (551).
Babson, which is ranked third in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, opens the 2016-17 season against Albertus Magnus on November 15 at 7 p.m.
