• Golf Closes Season With Ninth-Place Finish At Johnson & Wales

    The Babson College golf team wrapped up its 2010-11 season at the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational at the Cranston Country Club on Sunday and Monday. The Beavers's two-round team score of 652 placed them ninth out of 18 teams at the event. Senior captain Bryan Eger fired rounds of 76 and 80 to finish in a tie for eighth place with a total score of 156 in his final collegiate meet. Senior Eric Tidman was close behind in 14th place with a 158 (80-78), followed by sophomore Paul Caso in 53rd with a 168 (80-88).

    The Babson College golf team finished in a tie for eighth place out of 12 teams at the Western New England College Invitational at the Veterans Memorial Golf Course on Thursday. The Beavers' team score of 331 tied them with Springfield College, 24 shots off the winning pace set by host WNEC. Senior captain Bryan Eger posted Babson's low round of the tournament, carding a 76 to finish in a four-way tie for third place. UMass-Dartmouth's Matt Connolly won the event with a round of 73, followed by WNEC's Patrick Donahue in second place with a 74.

    The Babson College golf team posted a combined two-day score of 338, as the Beavers finished fifth out of 18 teams at the 2011 Hampton Inn Spring Invitational at Allendale Country Club. Entering the day in a tie for first with tournament champion Salem State, the Beavers fell to fifth overall by posting a team total of 338 in Sunday's final round. Babson finished just one stroke behind fourth-place Rhode Island College and 16 shots in back of Salem State.

    After day one of the Hampton Inn Spring Invitational hosted by UMass-Dartmouth, the Babson College golf team sits in a tie for first place out of 18 teams. The Beavers combined score of 316 is tied with Salem State University, seven stroke sahead of third-place HUsson and UMass-Dartmouth. Leading Babson on Saturday was junior Camilo Perlaza, who's opening round 76 placed him in a three-way tie for first overall with Husson's Chris Hamel and UMD's Nick Jagoe. Junior captain Joe Young carded a 78 on the first 18 holes to tie for sixth place, while senior Eric Tidman followed in 11th place with a first-round 79.

    The Babson College men's golf team opened the spring portion of its 2010-11 season at the Rhode Island College Spring Invitational played at Triggs Memorial Golf Course on Saturday, where the Beavers placed seven out of 12 teams with a combined score of 343. Husson University senior Michael Hersey (Presque Isle, ME) was the event's medalist with a score of 75 as he led his team to a first-place finish with a team total of 324.Senior Eric Tidman (Holden, Mass.) posted Babson's top finish on Saturday, firing a round of 82 to tie for 11th place overall.

    The Babson College men's golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2010-11 season at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships at the Captains Course on Tuesday, where the Beavers finished 14th out of 37 total teams and fourth among Division III squads. Leading Babson in the two-day tournament was junior Camilo Perlaza, who fired rounds of 76 and 79 to finish in a tie for 38th place overall with a total score of 155. Senior Bryan Eger was close behind in 44th place with a 156 off rounds of 76 and 80, while junior Joe Young rebounded from an opening-round 83 to shoot 75 and move up to 60th with a combined score of 158.

    Babson College junior Joseph Young (Westwood, Mass.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Golfer of the Week after an outstanding performance in the 2010 NECC Conference Championship. Young shot a 74 on day one and followed up with the low round of 71 on the final day for a 145 in the championship.

    The Babson College men's golf team made a valiant charge with a second-round low score of 305, but the Beavers fell just short of winning the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship at the Leicester Country Club on Sunday. Elms College took home the league title with a two-round total of 619 - two strokes ahead of the Beavers' combined score of 621. Although Babson came up short as a team, junior Joe Young (Westwood, Mass.) won the Beavers' second straight NECC Golfer of the Year award, as he carded a second-round 71 to finish first overall with a total score of 145. The victory also earned Young a spot on the All-Conference First Team.

The Beavers, whose streak of eight straight conference championships is on the line, trail second-place Springfield College by one stroke and first-place Elms by 10 strokes heading into Sunday's final round of play. Babson junior Joe Young (Westwood, Mass.) finished the day tied for second place with senior teammate Matt Foley (East Longmeadow, Mass.) in the individual standings after both carded an opening-round 74. They joined Springfield's Craig DiFranco in trailing tournament-leader Phil Rurak of Elms by two strokes heading into Sunday.

    Babson College junior Joe Young (Westwood, Mass) became his team's third consecutive New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Golfer of the Week honoree on Monday, as he led joined teammates Bryan Eger and Camilo Perlaza in grabbing the award. Young had an outstanding weekend at the Williams Invitational, carding back-to-back rounds of 76 to finish 14th out of 93 golfers with an overall score of 152. As a result, the Beavers finished 10th out of 18 total teams at the event with a team score of 636.

After posting a team score of 328 on Saturday, Babson rebounded in impressive fashion on Sunday, as four different players came in under 80. Junior captain Joe Young (Westwood, Mass.) and senior captain Bryan Eger (Hopkington, Mass.) each turned in rounds of 76, junior Camilo Perlaza (Cali, Colombia) added a 77, and senior Eric Tidman (Holden, Mass.) fired a 79.

Perlaza fired back-to-back rounds of 76 to post an overall score of 152, placing him 12th out of 127 competitors. As a result, Babson placed ninth out of 25 teams at the event.

Beavers' junior Camilo Perlaza carded a 76 for the second day in a row to finish 12th overall with a two-round total of 152. Junior Joe Young followed up Saturday's 76 with a round of 78 to place 24th overall at 154, and senior Bryan Eger rebounded from a tough opening round to fire a 77 on Sunday to tie senior teammate Eric Tidman for 64th with a combined score of 161.

Leading the Beavers on saturday were sophomore Camilo Perlaza and junior Joe Young, who each shot an opening-round 76 to tie for 11th place in the individual standings.

    Babson College senior Bryan Eger (Hopkinton, Mass.) was named the New England Collegiate Conference Golfer of the Week on Monday. Eger led the Beavers to a first-place finish at the Trinity Invitational, placing second out of 40 competitors. The senior linkster shot 144 for the two rounds, nailing a 70 in the first 18 and 74 in the final round.

    The Babson College golf team opened its 2010-11 season in spectacular fashion this weekend, as the Beavers finished first out of eight teams at the Trinity College Invitational at Shuttle Meadow Country Club. It was the second straight year that Babson won the event. Leading the Beavers was senior captain Bryan Eger (Hopkinton, Mass.), who fired rounds of 70 and 74 to finish second overall with a two-day total of 144. Junior Joe Young (Westwood, Mass.) was close behind in sixth place with a total score of 149, and junior Camilo Perlaza (Cali, Columbia) took eighth with a 151.

    After winning the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship in its first season as an associate member of the league last fall, the Babson College golf team has once again been selected as the conference's preseason favorite for 2010. Coached by Mike Vassalotti, Babson received three first-place votes and a total of 33 points in the preseason poll, which was voted upon by the league's head coaches. The Beavers will be led this year by senior Bryan Eger (Marion, Mass.), who finished first at last year's conference meet to earn NECC Golfer of the Year honors.
