BERLIN, Conn. -- The Babson College golf team opened its 2010-11 season in spectacular fashion this weekend, as the Beavers finished first out of eight teams at the Trinity College Invitational at Shuttle Meadow Country Club. It was the second straight year that Babson won the event.
Leading the Beavers over the weekend was senior captain Bryan Eger (Hopkinton, Mass.), who fired rounds of 70 and 74 to finish second overall with a two-day total of 144. Junior Joe Young (Westwood, Mass.) was close behind in sixth place with a total score of 149, and junior Camilo Perlaza (Cali, Columbia) took eighth with a 151.
Rounding out Babson's stellar lineup were senior Matt Foley (East Longmeadow, Mass.), who posted a 155 to finish 13th overall, and senior Eric Tidman (Holden, Mass.), who placed 29th with a 162.
Babson's team score of 599 was nine strokes better than Manhattanville College, which finished second with a 608. Amherst (611), Trinity (612), Anna Maria (634), Nichols (636), Wesleyan (641), and Purchace College (695) rounding out the final six spots. Junior Peter Taylor of Wesleyan took medalist honors with a combined score of 142 off back-to-back rounds of 71. A total of 40 golfers competed in the event.
