BREWSTER, Mass.—The Babson College men's golf team opened play at the 79th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on Sunday morning at the Captains Course, struggling to a first-round total of 337.
The Green and White, which were led by sophomore Vijay Vasandani's (Cebu, Philippines) 6-over par 78, sit in 32nd place after Sunday's first round and are 16th among Division III teams. First-year Bobby Quirk (East Greenwich, R.I.) fired a 12-over 84, sophomore Chris Maguire (Waltham, Mass.) carded a opening-round 87, and senior Daine Biluk (Calgary, Alberta) opened the tournament with an 88.
Division I Central Connecticut State University posted a team score of even-par 288 to grab a nine shot lead over the University of Rhode Island. Bryant University is currently in third place, followed by Western New England University, which is 12 shots off the pace after opening with a score of 300, while Providence College rounds out the top five.
Babson will return to the course for the final round on Monday morning starting at 8:30 a.m.
