Vasandani Fires Rounds of 77-78 To Tie For 13th Place

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—After battling rainy and cold conditions to shoot a 6-over par 77 on Saturday, junior Vijay Vasandani (Cebu, Philippines) shot a 7-over 78 on Sunday as the Babson College men's golf team shot a 319 to finish with a 36-hole total of 650 on its way to a 14th-place finish at the Duke Nelson Invitational at Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the campus of Middlebury College.

Despite a second consecutive day of cool temperatures, the Beavers were able to cut 12 shots off Saturday's first round to finish one shot ahead of Hamilton College and two shots in front of Nichols College on the 6,376 yard, par 71 layout. Rensselaer, which opened the day in second place, shot a final-round 296 to post a score of 605 en route to a three-shot victory over Trinity College. The University of Rochester finished third, while opening-round leader Middlebury came in fourth.

Vasandani's 36-hole total of 155 was good for a tie for 13th position. Senior Jay Ruvane (Buck Hill Falls, Pa.) shot a 9-over par 80 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 59th place with a two-round total of 163. Sophomore Bobby Quirk (East Greenwich, R.I.) carded a final-round 86 to tie for 84th overall at 168, while first-year Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) recovered from a first-round 89 to shoot an 80 on Sunday, posting a 36-hole total of 169 to finish tied for 91st. Junior Chris Maguire (Waltham, Mass.) shot an 81 in the final round and posted a tie for 96th with a total of 170.

Babson will take next weekend off before returning to action on September 24 at the Elms College Invitational at Westover Country Club in Granby, Mass.
