ATTLEBORO, Mass.—After firing back-to-back rounds of 4-over par 76 to earn men's Golfer and Rookie of the Year honors at the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship over the weekend, Babson College first-year Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) was selected as the league's golfer and rookie of the week on Monday morning.
Notkin finished with a 36-hole total of 8-over par 152 for a three-shot victory as the Beavers' collected their first NECC title since 2011 by finishing 15 shots clear of second-place Elms on the North Course at Stow Acres Country Club in Stow, Mass. In addition to his performance at the conference championship, he shot a 6-over par 77 and tied for ninth as the Green and White came in second at the Westfield State University Invitational last Tuesday at Tekoa Country Club.
The only player to compete in all nine rounds this fall for Babson, Notkin is currently third on the team with a 79.67 stroke average and has shot 80 or better six times so far this year.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it opens play at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship hosted by the Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardston, Mass., at 9 a.m.
