BREWSTER, Mass.—First-year Pranav Mohan (Fremont, Calif.) fired a 5-over 77 and the Babson College men's golf team posted a team score of 319 to finish in a tie for third place after the opening round of the 80th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Captains Course.
Husson University recorded a team score of 313 to finish three shots clear of second-place Rhode Island College after the first round. The Beavers and UMass-Dartmouth are both just six strokes behind, while fifth-place Elms College is just seven shots back entering Monday's final round.
Mohan is tied for fifth overall and sits just three strokes behind individual leader Austin Teal of Endicott College. Junior Vijay Vasandani (Cebu, Philippines) is tied for 14th after carding a 7-over par 79 on Sunday, while first-year Andrew Neal (Chevy Chase, Md.) is tied for 29th after shooting a 9-over 81 on the 6,724-yard, par-72 Port Course.
Junior Chris Maguire (Waltham, Mass.) posted an opening round 82, and first-year Kyle Alexander (Brewer, Maine) fired a first round 83 for the Green and White, which has now had a team score of 319 or better in eight of its 13 tournament rounds this fall.
Babson will conclude its fall schedule on Monday in the final round of the NEIGA Championship.
