DARTMOUTH, Mass.—First-year Andrew Neal (Chevy Chase, Md.) shot an 8-over par 80 to help the Babson College men's golf team tie for 11th place with a team score of 332 after the opening round of the UMass-Dartmouth Hampton Inn Invitational on Friday at Allendale Country Club.
Rhode Island College posted a team score of 314 and holds a six-shot lead over second-place Endicott College. The host Corsairs (321) and Tufts University (321) are tied for third place just seven shots off the lead, while Salem State University (322) is just eight shots back in fifth place.
Neal, who played the four par 5s at even, sits in a tie for 19th place overall. Fellow first-years Pranav Mohan (Fremont, Calif.), Kyle Alexander (Brewer, Maine) and Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) are all tied for 40th position after shooting 84. Classmate Dan Young (Westwood, Mass.), who made three birdies and played the par 5's at 1-under par, shot a first round 89.
Babson returns to the course for the final round of the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday at 1 p.m.
