Men's Golf Earns NCAA Tournament Berth With First NECC Championship Since 2011
BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-year Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) shot a 4-over par 76 for the second day in a row, and the Babson College men's golf team had four players earn all-conference honors en route to claiming its first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship since 2011 with a 15-shot victory on October 5, 2014, at Stow Acres Country Club in Stow, Mass.
Notkin became the program's fifth NECC Golfer of the Year in the last six years after posting an 8-over par total of 152 on the 6,797-yard North Course at Stow Acres. Fellow first-year Kyle Alexander (Brewer, Maine), who opened with a 75, tied for second place with a 36-hole total of 11-over par 155, while juniors Chris Maguire (Waltham, Mass.) and Vijay Vasandani (Cebu, Philippines) finished tied for sixth and 10th, respectively, to earn All-NECC accolades for the third straight season.
The Green and White opened the final round with a two-shot lead over Elms College, and posted the low team score of round two to pull away from the Blazers. The title was the third in six years for the Beavers, who joined the NECC prior to the 2009-10 season. By virtue of winning the league title, Babson earned an automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division III Championship at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., where it finished 38th overall.
