DORCHESTER, Mass.—First-year Benjamin Crawford (Houston, Texas) shot a 2-over par 72 and three other players shot 75 as the Babson College men's golf team finished second at the Newbury College Invitational at the William J. Devine Golf Course on Wednesday.

The Beavers posted a team score of 297 to finish 10 shots behind first-place Tufts University, which came in at 287. Nichols College came in third at 303, while Wentworth Institute of Technology (318) and Suffolk University (322) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Crawford came in fifth overall in his collegiate debut on the 6,013-yard, par 70 layout, making three birdies and tying for team-high honors with 12 pars on the day. Senior Chris Maguire (Waltham, Mass.), sophomore Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.)  and first-year Riley Whitham (Harvard, Mass.) all shot 75 to finish in a tie for seventh position. Whitham was the only player in the 56-man field to finish under par on the par 3's, while Maguire was the only Babson competitor to finish under par on the par 5's.

First-year Michael Kubik (Mansfield, Mass.) carded an 85 in his collegiate debut for the Beavers.

The Green and White returns to action on Saturday when it takes part in the first round of the Elms College Invitational at Elmhurst Golf Club beginning at 10 a.m.

• The Beavers team score of 297 was their first under 300 since the opening round of the Williams College Invitational in 2012, and their best since the 2011 squad posted a 289 in the first round of the NECC Championship at D.W. Field Golf Course.
• Babson has finished second in each of its three events this fall and owns the four lowest team scores in the NECC so far this fall.
