EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass.—First-year Riley Whitham (Harvard, Mass.) shot a 3-over par 73 and the Babson College men's golf team posted a final-round team score of 312 to finish fourth at the Elms College Blazer Invitational at Elmcrest Country Club on Sunday afternoon.
First-round leader Occidental College finished with a 36-hole total of 595 to collect an 11-shot victory over second-place Salem State University (606). Trinity College came in third with a total of 609, the Beavers were fourth at 616 and Worcester State University rounded out the top five at 618 on the 6,347-yard par 70 course.
Whitham, who tied for the second-lowest score on Sunday, made three birdies and tied for fifth overall with a 36-hole total of 9-over par 149. Sophomore Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) carded a final-round 78 and tied for 13th overall at 13-over par 153, while classmate Kyle Alexander (Brewer, Maine) finished tied for 18th place at 15-over 155 after posting an 80 on Sunday.
First-year Benjamin Crawford (Houston, Texas) shot a final-round 81 and tied for 35th position at 159, and sophomore Pranav Mohan (Fremont, Calif.) finished in a tie for 42nd place after carding rounds of 79 and 82.
Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it competes at the Westfield State Invitational at Tekoa Country Club starting at 11 a.m.
• Whitham has posted six straight rounds in the 70s to start his Babson career and has top-five finishes in three of the Beavers four tournaments this fall.
• Notkin has broken 80 in five consecutive rounds and has finished 13th or better in all four events to start the year.
• Babson's 36-hole total of 616 is its best since posting a 615 at the 2012 NECC Championship.
