Mohan Shoots 72 As Men's Golf Takes First-Round Lead at NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass.—Sophomore Pranav Mohan (Fremont, Calif.) opened with an even-par 72 to help the Babson College men's golf team grab a two-shot lead after the first round of the 81st Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at the Captains Course.

The Beavers finished the opening round with a team score of 305 and sits just ahead of second place Rhode Island College (307). Johnson & Wales University and Nichols College both sit three shots back in third position at 308, while St. Joseph's College (Maine) posted a score of 312 and is fifth overall.

Mohan, who earned All-New England honors last season after finishing in a tie for second place at the NEIGA Championship, finds himself in second place after day one, just two shots behind tournament leader Zachary Temple of Castleton University. Fellow sophomore Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) and first-year Riley Whitham (Harvard, Mass.) are tied for 15th place after carding matching rounds of 5-over par 77 on the 6,724-yard Port Course.

Sophomore Kyle Alexander (Brewer, Maine) finished with an opening round 79 and is tied for 31st position, while first-year Michael Kubik (Mansfield, Mass.) struggled on Sunday, signing for a 92.

Babson will start the final round on the Starboard Course starting at 10 a.m. on Monday.
