Choi Ties for Medalist Honors as Beavers Collect First Title of the Season
PORTSMOUTH, R.I.—First-year David Choi (Dallas, Texas) tied for medalist honors with an even-par 71 as the Babson College men's golf team captured its first title of the season at the Roger Williams Invitational on Wednesday afternoon.
The Beavers posted a team score of 297 at the 6,375-yard Montaup Country Club to finish two shots clear of runner-up Rhode Island College. Wentworth (308) came in third, while the host Hawks came in fourth and fifth, respectively, with their "A" and "B" teams.
Choi carded the lowest round of his young collegiate career to tie for first on the individual leaderboard with Nathan Patterson of Rhode Island College. Juniors Kyle Alexander (Brewer, Maine) and Pranav Mohan (Fremont, Calif.) both tied for third after shooting 74 to finish at 3-over par, while first-year Martin Jensen (Bronxville, N.Y.) tied for 13th with a 78 in his Babson debut. Senior Bobby Quirk (East Greenwich, R.I.) carded an 86 in his first round of the year for the Green and White.
Babson returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it begins first-round play at the Williams Invitational.
• The Beavers' team score of 297 equaled their low score of last season, which came in a runner-up finish at the Newbury Invitational on September 23.
• Babson's victory was its first since winning the eight-team Elms Invitational back on April 19.
