NEWINGTON, Conn.—Sophomore Chris Bornhorst (West Newton, Mass.) shot a 4-over par 76 and junior Riley Whitham (Harvard, Mass.) fired a 5-over 77 to help the Babson College men's golf team finish sixth at the season-opening Bill Detrick Invitational on Sunday at Indian Head Country Club.
The host Bantams claimed the top two spots on the leaderboard and Western New England came in third with a 36-hole total of 616. Amherst came in fourth at 621, Tufts (625) was four shots back in fifth place, and the Beavers finished with a final round total of 313 to place sixth with a two-day total of 630.
Bornhorst, who opened with a 79 on Saturday, tied for 14th place at 11-over par 155. Senior Ian Notkin (Caldwell, N.J.) carded rounds of 80-79 to finish at 15-over 159, which was one shot better than classmate Pranav Mohan (Fremont, Calif.), who backed up Saturday's 79 with a final round 81.
Whitham bounced back from an opening round 84 to finish at 17-over 161, and senior Kyle Alexander (Brewer, Maine) was a stroke behind him after shooting 81 on consecutive days. Senior Dan Young (Westwood, Mass.) followed up Saturday's 79 with a final round 86.
The Green and White returns to action next Saturday when it begins play at Middlebury's Duke Nelson Invitational at 1 p.m.
