NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Senior Pranav Mohan (Fremont, Calif.) and sophomore Chris Bornhorst (West Newton, Mass.) each shot 74 and Babson College sits just three shots off the lead after the first round of play in the UMass Dartmouth Hampton Inn Invitational at Allendale Country Club on Friday.
The Beavers, who are fourth in the initial NCAA regional rankings, recorded their best team score in a decade (302) at Allendale CC, and is just three shots behind the region's top-ranked team, Trinity. Salem State is third at 306, while Husson, which is ranked third in the region, is fourth at 307. The four teams will be paired together for Saturday's final round.
Mohan, who was playing his first event since early September, and Bornhorst are both tied for fifth at 2-over par. First-year Reed Wilson (Redlands, Calif.) is shot behind them in a tie for 10th after carding a 3-over 75 in the opening round.
Babson will begin second-round play on Saturday at 1 p.m.
