What I Did This Summer: Men's Golf Rising Senior Riley Whitham

My name is Riley Whitham and I am a rising senior on the Babson golf team. This summer I had the opportunity to participate in an internship program at a bank in New York City, RBC Capital Markets. At Babson, I have developed a passion for finance and have sharpened my skills through the various finance courses Babson offers. When I landed this internship, I was excited to apply what I learned at Babson to the real world and do my best to represent our school well at the office.

Over my internship, I developed many close relationships with people at the firm as well as other interns across various sectors of the bank. I spent a significant portion of my time this summer networking and taking employees out for coffee. People were always interested to learn more about Babson and hear about my experiences on the golf team. Golf is always a great talking point in the finance world and I am grateful that I have memorable golf moments from Babson to share.

This was my first time living in a major city and I was so happy with what NYC had to offer. As a major foodie, I spent a majority of my free time exploring new restaurants and food spots. By the end of the summer, I created a list of my ten favorite spots to eat. When I was out of the office, I spent time walking and biking around the city with my teammate Lukas Linemayr, who I lived with in the city. Also, I met up with my teammate Martin Jensen on multiple occasions as we practiced golf to prepare for the upcoming season. Lastly, one of the most memorable moments of the summer was playing golf with a Babson alumni, who took Luc and me out for a round of golf. It was so special to be welcomed like this by an alum in a fast-paced and unfamiliar place like NYC. I would encourage all of the athletes reach out to alumni in their area and find a time to meet up!

Overall, my ten-week internship in NYC was a once in a lifetime experience where I was able to develop my professional skills, network and spend time with some familiar Babson faces. I can't wait to get back to campus and hear about what my teammates and friends did this summer!
