Bornhorst, Men's Golf Finish Second at Season-Opening Bill Detrick Invitational

NEWINGTON, Conn.—Junior Chris Bornhorst (West Newton, Mass.) closed with an even-par 72 to help the Babson College men's golf team finish second at the Bill Detrick Invitational hosted by Trinity College at Indian Hill Country Club.

The Beavers posted a second round team score of 296 to finish with a 36-hole total of 596. The host Bantams improved shot 4-under (284) as a team on Sunday to close win by 23 shots with a two-day total of 3-under par 573. Amherst College was third at 608, while Tufts University placed fourth at 611.

Bornhorst backed up Saturday's 71 with a round of 72 to finish second overall at 1-under par. His total of 143 was three shots off the pace of Trinity's Will Rosenfield, who finished at 4-under after firing his second consecutive 70 on Sunday.

First-year Nicholas Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.) shot a 1-over 73 on Sunday to finish in 10th place at 5-over 149. Sophomore Lane Bohman (Chatham, Mass.) also closed with a 73 and tied for 14th place at 7-over 151, while senior Riley Whitham (Harvard, Mass.) came in tied for 24th at 155 after rounds of 76-79.

Senior Benjamin Crawford (Houston, Texas) shot 81 on Sunday and posted a two-day total of 158, and junior Ross Rabin (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) rallied to card a 78 on Sunday.

Babson returns to action next Saturday when it opens up defense of last year's title at Middlebury College's Duke Nelson Invitational at 1 p.m.

• The Beavers' second-place finish is their best at Trinity since winning in 2010.
• With an even-par 72 on Sunday, Bornhorst has now finished at level par or better in seven consecutive rounds going back to last April.
• Babson has broken 600 in seven of its last nine 36-hole tournaments going back to last September.
