Men's Golf Finishes Fourth at Royal Lakes-Oglethorpe Invitational

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga.—Senior Chris Bornhorst (West Newton, Mass.) and sophomore Nicholas Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.) both closed with rounds of even-par 72 and posted top-10 finishes as the Babson College men's golf team came in fourth at the Royal Lakes-Oglethorpe Invitational, which wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon at Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club.

The Beavers finished with a 5-over score of 293 in round two and posted a 36-hole total of 1-under 575. No. 13 Hampden-Sydney finished first with a 17-under par total of 559, which was seven shots better than No. 5 Guilford (10-under, 566). McDaniel came in third, two shots ahead of Babson at 3-under 573.

Bornhorst, who opened with a round of 67 on Monday, finished in a tie for fourth with a 5-under total of 139. He was 1-under through 10 holes in the final round before bogeying the 13th and making a double on the 15th. Bornhorst closed strong though, making back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to post the Beavers' low score of the tournament.

Gianelos followed up an opening round 68 with a 72 on Tuesday to grab a share of seventh place at 4-under par. He opened the final round with two birdies in the first three holes, and was 2-under on his round before giving back four shots over the first five holes on the back nine. Gianelos rallied though, making birdie at No. 15 and adding another on the 18th to record the low 36-hole score of his career.

Sophomore Burt Gesner (Severna Park, Md.) followed up a first round 70 with a 75 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 27th place at 1-over 145. First-year Jackson Rothwell (Victoria, British Columbia) shot 77-74 and tied for 57th position at 7-over 151, while junior Reed Wilson (Redlands, Calif.) carded rounds of 79-76 to tie for 65th place at 9-over 153.

Babson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for the Saratoga National Invitational.

• Babson, which tied for last year's title, owns two top-four finishes in two trips to the Royal Lakes-Oglethorpe Invitational.
• The Beavers' 36-hole score of 575 was its lowest since 2017 when it posted 572 at Middlebury.
• Bornhorst, who also tied for fourth place at the 2018 Royal Lakes-Oglethorpe Invitational, boasts a 70.25 stroke average in four rounds at Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club.
• Babson finished ahead of No. 12 Oglethorpe, No. 23 Sewanee and No. 24 Greensboro.
