No. 12/12 Men's Ice Hockey Suffers 4-2 Loss at Saint Michael's

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt.—Senior Danny Divis (Media, Pa.) scored a pair of goals and junior Eric Salzillo (Johnston, R.I.) had two assists to help Saint Michael's College defeat No. 12 USCHO.com/No. 12 D3hockey.com, 4-2, in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's ice hockey action on Friday night at Cairns Arena.

Babson, which suffered its second consecutive loss, slips to 7-3-1 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play, while Saint Michael's is now 3-7-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the NEHC.

Junior Charlie Ackerman (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Tommy Munichiello (Weymouth, Mass.) each finished with a goal for the Beavers. Seniors Michael Phillips (Richmond Heights, Ohio) and Dan Casey (Chatham, N.J.), junior Jake Donahue (Groveland, Mass.) and first-year Connor Dahlman (Stamford, Conn.) all recorded an assist in the loss.

Sophomore Sam D'Antuono (Hingham, Mass.) and senior Anthony Maiuri (Boxford, Mass.) both scored once for the Purple Knights, who got 29 saves from sophomore goaltender Chris Johnson (Duxbury, Mass.).

Divis gave Saint Michael's a 1-0 lead at 10:39 of the first period when he scored on the power play with a blast from the right point. Munichiello tied the game at 7:04 of the second period with his team-leading sixth goal of the season from the high slot off a feed from Dahlman, but the Purple Knights went back in front just 66 seconds later when D'Antuono scored off his own rebound to make it 2-1.

Babson had three consecutive power plays after falling behind in the middle period, but were unable to pull even as junior Rob Devaney (Reading, Mass.) hit the pipe midway through the stanza and Johnson made seven saves, including three on junior Ryan Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass.) and two more on Donahue in just over a minute late in the frame. Saint Michael's took advantage of the play of its netminder by extending the lead to 3-1 when Maiuri scored on a wraparound just 2:07 in third period.

Johnson made three more saves while senior Bill Seligman (Toronto, Ontario) hit the Pipe early in the third before the Beavers pulled within a goal on Ackerman's laser from the top of the left circle with 9:49 remaining in regulation. The Green and White pulled sophomore goaltender Bryan Botcher (Mequon, Wis.) with 1:17 left, but the Purple Knights put the game away 20 seconds later when Divis scored an empty net goal for the final margin.

Botcher, who suffered his first collegiate loss, finished with 23 saves on the night for Babson.

The Beavers held a 31-27 edge in shots, but went just 1-for-8 on the power play.

Both teams return to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. as Babson visits Norwich, while Saint Michael's hosts UMass Boston.
