Three From Men's Ice Hockey Earn AHCA All-America Scholar Honors

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Michael Phillips '17 and seniors Josh Casper (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Matt McMorrow (Pearl River, N.Y.) were honored for their work in the classroom when the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) released its first Division III All-America Scholars team recently.

A new initiative by the AHCA recognizes men's and women's hockey players at the Division I, II and III levels who competed in at least 40 percent of their team's games and finished the 2016-17 academic year with a 3.60 cumulative grade-point average or better. Phillips, Casper and McMorrow were three of 1,229 student-athletes honored in the first year of the program.

A two-time all-conference and three-time academic all-league selection, Phillips graduated in May after finishing his career with 26 goals and 52 assists for 78 points in 111 career games. He signed with Les Remparts de Tours in the French second division back in April and is set to make his professional debut this fall.

McMorrow and Casper were two of seven Babson players to appear in all 27 games last winter. McMorrow scored four goals and recorded six assists for 10 points, while Casper chipped in with three assists and was a key member of a defense that ranked seventh nationally in goals against average.

Babson opens the 2017-18 season on October 28 when it takes on Salem State in Falmouth, Mass., at 3:45 p.m.
