BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College Department of Athletics and Recreation will hold a Teddy Bear Toss when the Beavers host the University of Southern Maine to open the final weekend of New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) regular season play on Friday night at the Babson Skating Center.
Fans are asked to bring a new or slightly used teddy bear or stuffed animal with them to the game as the price of admission, and there will be a limited number of stuffed animals being sold at the door for $5. All proceeds from the event will go to the children of Project Smile, which donates stuffed animals and other items to first responders to give to children involved in traumatic situations.
In addition to working with police, firefighters and paramedics, Project Smile also partners with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families and homeless shelters by donating stuffed animals, coloring books and crayons, and reading books for children entering foster care or living in shelters throughout the state.
Friday's contest against the Huskies starts at 7 p.m. and the stuffed animals will be thrown onto the ice during the second intermission. Babson enters the weekend at 12-8-3 overall and 10-4-2 in the NEHC, just one point behind second-place Hobart.
