MARSHFIELD, Mass.—The Babson College men's ice hockey team was picked to finish fourth when the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday morning.
Defending Division III runner-up Norwich University collected six of 10 first-place votes to finish atop the poll with 95 points, while Hobart College garnered two first-place votes and came in second with 88 points. UMass Boston (76 points) edged the Beavers by just two points for third place, while Skidmore finished a distant fifth with 59 points despite claiming the final first-place vote.
The Green and White returns 21 players, including its top four scorers and seven defensemen, from a team that went 17-7-3 last winter. The Beavers advanced to the conference tournament semifinals for the seventh year in a row in 2019, and have recorded eight consecutive top-three finishes in league play under the direction of 16th-year head coach Jamie Rice.
Babson opens the 2019-20 season on November 2 when it hosts Curry College inside the Babson Skating Center at 7 p.m.
