2010 Season Preview: Men's Lacrosse
BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College men's lacrosse team will look to begin a new era of success in 2010. Despite losing their top three scorers to graduation, the Beavers return a veteran group and will take the field under the direction of first-year head coach Brendan Gorman.
Gorman comes to Babson after serving as the top assistant at Rochester Institute of Technology for the past four seasons. A 2004 graduate of Hartwick College, Gorman was a four year letter-winner and one year assistant coach during his time with the Hawks.
Junior Andrew Packer (Hudson, Ohio) returns after ranking second on the team with 16 goals in 2009. He will be joined by classmate Armand Wilson (Fairfield, Conn.), who finished with 10 goals last season.
Winning 95 of 104 face-offs in 2009 was rookie Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.), who was also the team leader in groundballs with 67 on the season and will continue in this crucial role in 2010.
Defensively, Babson will be led by senior co-captain and Second Team All-Pilgrim League selection Max Artz (Gates Mills, Ohio), who finished with 43 groundballs a year ago. Also returning to the roster this spring is senior Shane Farrell West (Warwick, R.I.), who is back after leading the team with 57 groundballs as a sophomore in 2008.
Senior co-captain Mike Saucier (Nashua, N.H.) will once again handle the starting goalkeeper duties after playing 488 minutes and making 115 saves for a 9.96 goals against average in 2009. Under the leadership of captains Artz and Saucier, the Beavers will look to earn their 10th consecutive Pilgrim League conference tournament bid this spring.
