Gorman, Dawidjan Highlight Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Honors, Six Others Recognized
BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Babson College men’s lacrosse team placed six players on the Pilgrim League All-Conference teams and three on the Academic All-Conference team after closing out one of the best season in recent years. Senior Ryan Kucinski (Cohasset, Mass.), junior Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) and first-year Ryan Dawidjan (Worcester, Mass.) were all named to the All-Conference First Team while sophomores John Clausing (Ridgewood, N.J,), Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) and Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, Vt.) were named to the All-Conference Second Team. In addition, second year head coach, Brendan Gorman was named the conference Co-Coach of the Year and Dawidjan earned conference Rookie of the Year honors.
Caruso, Dawidjan and senior Nick Dager (Litchfield, N.H.) were all named to the Pilgrim League Academic All-Conference team which requires athletes to be a significant contributor to their team while maintaining an overall grade point average of 3.25 or above.
Dawidjan led all award winners earning First Team All-Conference accolades while also being named the conference Rookie of the Year and earning a spot on the All-Conference Academic team. He had an outstanding rookie season leading the team with 79 groundballs and 40 caused turnovers despite missing six of the teams 18 games due to an injury. Dawidjan ranked second in the league in groundballs per game (6.7) and caused turnovers per game (2.9) as he helped to lead the Babson defense.
Caruso’s All-Conference selection is the first of his career and his Academic All-Conference selection is his third. He ranked third on the team with 37 points and second on the squad with 57 groundballs. His two game-winning goals put him in a tie for third in the league, while his .503 face-off percentage ranked fifth among conference players.
Also earning the first All-Conference honors of his career is Kucinski. A defender who played in 17 games as an important factor to the Babson clearing game, he tallied three goals and two assists this season while ranking third on the team in groundballs with 43 and second in caused turnovers with 32.
Patinkin, last season’s Pilgrim League Rookie of the Year, earns All-Conference Second Team honors for the second consecutive season. He led Babson and the Pilgrim League with 67 total points and ranked among the conference’s top ten in goals, goals per game, assists, assists per game, and points per game. Patinkin was Babson’s top scorer in conference play with 10 goals, 12 assists, and 22 points. His 67 points ranks him fifth on the Babson all-time list for most points in a season.
Schmidt earns his first All-Conference selection on the second team this spring after playing in all 18 games ranking third on the team with 27 goals and fourth with 33 points this season. He also led the team and tied for the league lead with three game-winning goals, including two against conference opponents. His six man-up scores were tied for second most in the league.
Clausing started 17 games at defense for the Beavers proving to be an extremely reliable defender. He totaled 24 groundballs and 15 caused turnovers this season, including six groundballs and four caused turnovers in Pilgrim League play.
Earning All-Conference Academic honors for the third time in his career, Dager saw time in 12 games this spring tallying three goals and one assist in his senior campaign.
Sharing this year’s Pilgrim League Coach of the Year honors is second year head coach Brendan Gorman who led the Beavers to their most successful season in recent years. The Beavers completed the season with a record of 10-8 and were the #2 seed in the Pilgrim League Tournament. Babson hosted a semifinal game against Wheaton taking the 18-9 victory marking the Beavers’ first win in a conference tournament since the 2001 season. Babson then advanced to only their second conference title game in program history where they lost to #1 seeded Springfield College, 19-8.
