TROY, N.Y.—Sophomore Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) scored four times, but visiting Babson College was unable to erase a five-goal halftime deficit and suffered a 13-7 loss at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday night at ECAV Stadium.
Babson, which has dropped three straight games, is now 4-6 overall, while Rensselaer improves to 8-3 on the year.
Senior Zach Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) led all players with a season-high nine ground balls, while junior Connor Maloney (Hopkinton, Mass.) won 7-of-11 face-offs for the Beavers. First-year goaltender Christopher Aranalde (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made 13 saves over the first three quarters and junior Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.) turned away three shots over the final 15 minutes.

Lukas put the Engineers ahead at the 8:05 mark of the opening frame and junior Oliver Kaija (Woodstock, Vt.) won the ensuing face-off and scored six seconds later to push the margin to 3-1. Putnam and Lukas scored 49 seconds apart to make it 5-1 with 4:36 left in the first, and sophomore JT Kelly (Acton, Mass.) converted a feed from Putnam to give the hosts a 7-1 edge with 5:20 left in the second quarter.
First-year Troy Nanfelt (Lakeville, Mass.) scored 2:42 before the half and junior Austin Fabel (East Rockaway, N.Y.) notched his only marker of the night just over two minutes into the third quarter to pull the Green and White within 7-3. The momentum was short-lived though, as RPI ripped off three goals in the span of 2:44 to take a 10-3 lead, its largest of the night, with 9:38 left in the frame.
Dillon scored a pair of third-period goals and another in the fourth as Babson cut its deficit to 12-7 on senior Matthew Logan's (Downingtown, Pa.) tally with 11:20 remaining.
Senior David Gibbs (Stony Brook, N.Y.) made five saves for the Engineers, who finished with a 29-12 edge in shots on goal. RPI also held a 39-32 edge in ground balls.
The Beavers went 16-for-19 on clearing opportunities and won 13-of-24 face-offs.
