Madden, Bottomley Earn NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Accolades

BOSTON—Two members of the Babson College men's lacrosse team garnered New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference honors on Thursday afternoon. Senior Daniel Madden (West Islip, N.Y.) was named to the squad for the third year in a row, while sophomore Brett Bottomley (Mercer Island, Wash.) was selected for the first time.

Madden, who is also a three-time all-league honoree on defense, has scooped up 20 ground balls to go along with nine caused turnovers in 14 starts this season. He also scored the first goal of his career last Saturday at Clark and has picked up 123 ground balls and caused 49 turnovers in 64 career games for the Beavers.

Bottomley has started 13 of 14 games this spring and has scored a career-high four goals to go along with three assists for seven points from his midfield position. Additionally, he has collected 11 ground balls and has seven caused turnovers.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2016 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Babson (8-8, 3-3 NEWMAC) travels to Coast Guard in its regular season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the winner gaining a spot in next week's conference tournament.
