WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College men's lacrosse team was picked to finish fourth when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its annual preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday.
Springfield College, which captured its 12th consecutive league tournament crown last spring, collected five of seven first-place votes to finish atop the poll. Second-place Coast Guard Academy and third-place MIT both collected one first-place vote, while the Beavers finished ahead of fifth-place Clark University.
Second-year head coach Rocky Batty returns 27 players from a team that finished 8-9 overall and 4-3 in league play after suffering a one-goal NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinal loss at Clark last spring. Despite losing its top scorer, Babson brings back six of its top eight point producers, as well as three all-conference performers on the defensive side of the ball.
The Beavers open the 2020 campaign when they host Roger Williams at MacDowell Field on February 19 at 3:30 p.m.
