LUDLOW, Vt.—First-year Elizabeth Baer (Salt Lake City, Utah) posted her second top-10 finish of the weekend to help the Babson College women's alpine ski team come in second in the giant slalom at Okemo Mountain Resort on Friday. Led by top-10 finishes from both first-year Douglas DeLuca (Holderness, N.H.) and junior T.J. Pope (Bountiful, Utah), the Beavers came in third in the men's GS.

Baer recorded the fastest time among 71 skiers on her second run to finish fourth overall with a time of 2:39.76. Junior Tatum Alkier (Collingwood, Ontario) finished 10th with a time of 2:43.17, while classmate Michelle Martin (Belmont, Mass.) and senior Megan Jones (Essex, Mass.) came in less than a second behind her to take 11th and 13th place, respectively.

Senior Kristen Sweeney (Westport, Conn.) recorded a 14th-place finish, junior Alexis Kane (North Syracuse, N.Y.) was 24th and classmate Kathleen Sheppard (Woodstock, Vt.) came in 25th as the Beavers finished behind first-place Castleton.

In the men's race, DeLuca used a strong second run to come in eighth overall with a time of 2:34.65, just ahead of Pope, who used two solid runs to place ninth with a total time of 2:34.94. First-year Sean Robinson (Reno, Nev.) finished 15th, senior Max Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was just four seconds behind him in 21st position and junior John Boland (Waitsfield, Vt.) recorded a 32nd-place showing with a time of 2:48.73.

Classmate Ben Greenspan (Chappaqua, N.Y.) finished in 36th position for the Green and White on a day when 22 skiers failed to finish two runs.

Babson returns to action next Saturday when it begins the first of two days of competition at West Mountain with the giant slalom.
