USCSA Eastern Regionals Preview at West Mountain

Alpine Ski at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships
Saturday-Sunday, February 24-25 | 9:30 a.m.
West Mountain—Queensbury, N.Y.

THE SETUP
The Babson College men's and women's alpine ski teams will travel to West Mountain for the two-day United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional Championships this weekend. The Beavers will compete in the giant slalom on Saturday and the slalom on Sunday with the top five teams earning a spot at the USCSA National Championships at Whiteface Mountain beginning on March 6.

LAST TIME AT WEST MOUNTAIN
The Green and White returns to West Mountain for the second time this month after competing in three races over the weekend of February 3-4. Both the Babson men and women placed second and third in a pair of slalom events to go along with a third-place showing in the GS.

2017 USCSA REGIONALS RECAP
Sophomore MacIntyre Henderson won the GS and came in first in the combined standings to help the Babson men capture their third regional title in five years last year at West Mountain. Classmates Douglas DeLuca and Jack Blanchard also finished in the top five for the Beavers. On the women's side, sophomore Elizabeth Baer posted a pair of top-five results to come in fourth in the combined standings, while senior Tatum Alkier placed seventh overall to help the Green and White finish third.

SCOUTING THE BABSON MEN
The Beavers enter their 11th straight regional championship after finishing third in the MacConnell Division regular season standings. Blanchard came in first and sixth, while Henderson placed fourth and fifth in the final regular season slalom races of the year at Proctor Ski Area back on February 10. Blanchard (2nd) and Henderson (3rd) were two of the Beavers' four all-league honorees along with DeLuca and sophomore Sean Robinson, who finished 14th and 15th, respectively, in the league standings. The Green and White has posted five straight top-four finishes at regionals and is seeking its 12th straight berth to the USCSA National Championships.

SCOUTING THE BABSON WOMEN
The Beavers are making their fourth consecutive appearance at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships after finishing second in the MacConnell Division regular season standings. Baer posted a first and a second and senior Michelle Martin came in sixth in both slalom races as Babson wrapped up the regular season with a pair of runner-up results at Proctor Ski Area on February 10. Baer (T-2nd), Martin (6th) and Alkier (9th) all garnered all-league honors for the Beavers, while juniors Olivia Burwell and Teagan Mosenthal came in 18th and 19th in the season-long standings. The Green and White owns back-to-back top-three finishes at regionals and are looking to qualify for nationals for the third year in a row.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The Beavers' toughest competition this weekend should once again come from the MacConnell Division. The league swept the top five spots in both the men's and women's standings last season. MacConnell Division regular season men's champion Clarkson is looking to capture its first regional title since 2015, while women's winner Castleton last won at regionals in 2016.
