Father-Son Combo Highlights Babson's NEWMAC Men's Soccer Award Winners

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Two days after winning its second straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship, the Babson College men's soccer team saw five individuals garner league awards on Tuesday. Senior midfielder Dan Fogarty (Brookline, N.H.) and first-year forward Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) were both named All-Conference First Team, and senior back Chris Morris (Shoreline, Wash.) and sophomore goalie Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) were selected to the All-NEWMAC Second Team. In addition, Anderson was chosen as the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, and head coach Jon Anderson '75 was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year.

Fogarty and Anderson both garnered First Team honors after powering the Beavers' offense this fall. A Second Team selection as a junior, Fogarty led Babson and the NEWMAC with 13 assists this season while also contributing four goals for 21 total points. He notched two helpers in a 5-1 win over Plymouth State on October 25 to become the program's all-time assist leader. He currently boasts 39 assists in his remarkable career - five better than the next highest total and the most in the 43-year history of the Babson soccer program.

The son of head coach Jon Anderson, forward Eric Anderson was spectacular in his first collegiate campaign. The 6-foot-3 striker led the team and ranked third in the NEWMAC both goals and points, amassing 13 goals and six assists for 32 points in 20 games. He also paced the Beavers and ranked second in the league with six game-winning goals this fall. Anderson is Babson's first Rookie of the Year selection since goalie Nick Todd in 1998.

Earning NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team honors were Crowley and Morris, who were the centerpieces of Babson's defense this fall. After missing the team's first five contests with an injury, Crowley started the Beavers' final 16 games in net, going 12-3-1 with a 1.37 goals against average, a .758 save percentage, and two shutouts. One of those shutouts was a brilliant nine-save performance in a 1-0 win over Wheaton on October 10, which helped Babson secure the top seed and home field advantage in the conference tournament. Meanwhile, Morris switched from midfield to back late in the year and played magnificently down the stretch, helping Babson win its final five games and eight of its last nine. The senior defender also contributed an assist on the game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime win over Coast Guard on September 26.

For Jon Anderson, the Conference Coach of the Year award was the eighth of his tremendous career and the fourth such honor since the inception of the NEWMAC back in 1998. A 1975 alumnus of Babson and a member of the Beavers' first national championship team in 1975, Anderson guided his team to a 15-5-1 record and its second straight NEWMAC Championship this fall. With that title came the program's 21st bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Beavers will play Western New England in the first round this Saturday at Wesleyan University at 1:30 p.m.
