WESTWOOD, Mass.—Four Babson College men's soccer players were recognized for their work in the classroom when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday morning.
Juniors Chris Czarnecki (Baltimore, Md.), Ben Holman (Ashland, Mass.) and Austin Mankouski (Suffield, Conn.) were all named to the squad for the second year in a row, while sophomore Cem Kullukcu (Izmir, Turkey) was honored for the first time in his career.
Czarnecki has started 14 of 16 games this fall and ranks fourth on the team in scoring with two goals and three assists for seven points. He scored the opening marker in a 3-0 win over Eastern Connecticut State on October 17 and picked up in an assist in last Tuesday's victory over Bridgewater State.
Holman has appeared in all 17 matches this season and picked up his first career assist in Babson's 2-0 victory over then-No. 4 Brandeis back on September 8. Mankouski has won all three of his starts and boasts a 0.33 goals against average, a .875 save percentage and two clean sheets, while Kullukcu has seen action in six contests as a substitute.
In order to be eligible for NEWMAC Academic All-Conference consideration, honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2017 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
Top-seeded Babson (11-2-4, 5-0-2 NEWMAC), which was third in last week's NCAA regional rankings, will host fourth-seeded Wheaton in a confrence tournament semifinal on Thursday at 7 p.m.
