WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College seniors Alex Crompton (Killington, Vt.) and Steven Heintzelman (Middleton, Mass.) swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards on Tuesday morning. Crompton was tabbed as the league's offensive player of the week, while Heintzelman earned defensive player of the week honors.
Crompton scored a pair of goals in two wins for the Beavers. He gave the Beavers the lead in the 11th minute of Tuesday's 2-0 win over top-ranked Tufts, which snapped the Jumbos' 30-game unbeaten streak, and followed it up with a second-half tally to help Babson pull away for a 3-0 victory at Emerson on Saturday.
Crompton has started 11 of 13 matches this fall and ranks third on the team in scoring with three goals and three assists for nine points. His 17 career markers are also the most by a Babson player going back to 2015.
Heintzelman stopped all 13 shots he faced and posted two shutouts in two last week for the Green and White. He was superb in matching his career high with nine saves as the Beavers knocked off Tufts, the defending Division III champions, on Tuesday, and followed it up with a four-save performance as Babson scored three second-half goals in Saturday's triumph at Emerson.
Heintzelman is 5-3-2 in 10 starts this fall and ranks second in the NEWMAC in goals against average (0.88), save percentage (.833) and shutouts (5). He has been at his best as of late going 4-0-2 with a 0.16 goals against average and four clean sheets in six starts going back to September 21.
Babson (7-5-2, 2-0-2 NEWMAC) hosts No. 14 Connecticut College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and Wheaton on Saturday at 1 p.m.
