WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Babson College swimming and diving teams resumed their 2008-09 season at Wellesley College on Tuesday night. The women fell to both the Blue, 162-124, and visiting Coast Guard, 207-84, while the men lost to Coast Guard, 169-102.
Both halves of the meet saw numerous highlights for the Beavers. On the women's side, sophomore Mia Filippini (Lake Forest, Ill.) posted two of Babson's three first-place finishes, winning both the 50 free in a time of 25.43 and the 100 fly in a time of 1:02.16. First-year Mallory Mosk (san Clemente, Calif.) also tallied a win for the Beavers, finishing first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:22.56. Mosk also placed second in the 200 fly and third in the 200 back.
Other strong finishes for the women included first-years Nikita Nadkarni (North Brunswick, N.J.), who placed third in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, and Meaghan Rohde (St. Paul, Minn.) took third in the 500 and 1000 freestyle races. Mosk, Nadkarni, Filippini, and first-year Sara Martinek (Riverside, Ill.) also teamed up to place second in the 400 medley relay, while Filippini, Rohde, Martinek, and first-year Brittany Bishop (Little Neck, N.Y.) took second in the 400 free relay.
On the men's side, senior Ted Plaisted (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) finished first in the 200 back with a time of 2:03.89 while also taking third in the 200 freestyle. Senior Philippe Noelting (Toronto, Ontario) added a second-place performance in the 100 back, sophomore Mauricio Krantzberg (Cancun, Mexico) finished second in the 50 free, and first-year Tom Foutsitzis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) placed third in the 100 free. Krantzberg, Foutsitzis, Plaisted, and senior Ricardo Ramirez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) also teamed up to finish second in the 400 free relay for Babson, which returns to action with a dual meet at Gordon tomorrow night.
