Men's Swimming and Diving Completes Day One of NEWMAC Championships

NORTON, Mass. - The Babson College men's swimming and diving team has completed the first day of the 2008-09 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) swimming and diving championships hosted by Wheaton College. The best showing of the day came from the fifth place 200 freestyle relay team comprised of senior tri-captain Phil Noelting (Toronto, Ontario), first-year Tom Foutsitzis (Shrewsbury, Mass.), sophomore Mauricio Krantzberg (Cancun, Mexico), and junior Ted Plaisted (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) when they finished with a time of 1:26.24.

Also swimming in the 200 freestyle relay was a team made up of senior Ricardo Ramierz (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico), first-year Mike Regan (Towaco, N.J.), senior  Thayer Glasscock (Franklin, Tenn.) and sophomore Sam Wear (Greenbrae, Calif.) who finished in 1:31.11 for a 12th place finish.

In the 500 freestyle, Regan finished 23rd with a time of 5:00.45. Sophomore Paul Rollinger (Los Altos, Calif.) finished 42nd with a time of 5:33.85, senior captain Ari Gray (Redding, Conn.) swam a time of 5:35.47 for 44th place and sophomore Mikita Kourtchikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished in 5:48.02 for 47th place.

Noelting finished 19th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.10. Glasscock swam a time of 2:05.04 and first-year Geoffrey Suen (Scarsdale, N.Y.) placed 28th with a time of 2:16.56.

In the 50 freestyle Foutsitzis finished 12th with a time of 21.92. He was closely followed by teammate Krantzberg with a time of 22.09 who finished 13th. Ramirez finished in 24th place with a time of 22.53 and first-year Matt Turkot (Barrington, Ill.) came in 38th in 23.37. Wear, Rodriguez and sophomore Joseph Dimuccio (Cumberland, R.I.) finished with times of 23.71, 24.01, and 24.85 respectively. Sophomores Pranav Kotwal (New York, N.Y.) and Joel Bonina (Marston Mills, Mass.) rounded out the group finishing in 25.54 and 27.90.

A 400 medley relay team consisting of Plaisted, Bonina, Foutsitzis, and Krantzberg finished seventh in the last swim of the night with a time of 3:41.28. A second team made up of Noelting, Suen, Glasscock, and Ramirez finished 13th in 3:46.16.
