Men's Swimming and Diving Finishes Seventh in NEWMAC Championships

DAY THREE
RESULTS
NORTON, Mass. - The Babson College men's swimming and diving team
finished seventh in the 2008-09 New England Women's and Men's
Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) swimming and diving championships
hosted by Wheaton College. On the third and final day of
competition, Babson Junior Ted Plaisted (Mountain Lakes,
N.J.) finished fourth out of 23 swimmers in the 200
backstroke breaking a Babson College record with a time of 1:55.28.
In the 1650 freestyle, first-year Mike Regan (Towaco, N.J.) finished in 21st place with a time of 18:37.77. Senior captain Ari Gray (Redding, Conn.) followed with a time of 19:42.41 for 25th place and sophomore Mikita Kourtchikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came in 27th with a time of 21:20.35.
Plaisted broke the Babson College record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.28.The record was previously held by Brian Drysdale set in the 2004-05 season. Also swimming the 200 back was senior captain Phil Noelting (Toronto, Ontario) who finished 11th with a time of 2:00.36.
Sophomore Mauricio Krantzberg (Cancun, Mexico) finished 15th out of 50 swimmers in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.97. He was closely followed by first-year Tom Foutsitzis (Shrewbury, Mass.) who finished 17th in 49.00. Senior Ricardo Ramirez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) came in 24th place with a time of 49.83 and first-year Matt Turkot (Barrington, Ill.) finished with a time of 51.15 for 32nd place. Sophomore Sam Wear (Greenbrae, Calif.) swam a time of 52.51. Senior captain Mario Rodriguez (Villahermosa, Mexico) and sophomores Paul Rollinger (Los Altos, Calif.) and Joe Dimuccio (Cumberland, R.I.) finished 40th, 41st, and 42nd with times of 53.17, 54.46, and 55.57 respectively. Rounding out the group were first-year Mike Gurevich (Framingham, Mass.) who finished with a time of 56.56; sophomore Mark Merolle (Watertown, Conn.) with a time of 56.65; and sophomore Pranav Kotwal (New York, N.Y.) with a time of 57.56.
In the 200 breaststroke, first-year Geoffrey Suen (Scarsdale, N.Y.) finished in 19th place with a time of 2:26.71 and sophomore Joel Bonina (Marstons Mills, Mass.) followed in 20th place with a time of 2:27.00. Senior Jose Villamar (Bronx, N.Y.) swam a time of 2:49.32.
Babson's lone swimmer in the 200 butterfly, senior Thayer Glasscock (Franklin, Tenn.) finished 17th with a time of 2:08.28.
In the 3-meter diving, first-year Ryan Pope (Hawthorne, N.Y. ) finished 8th overall with a score of 288.95.
In the final race of the championships, a 400 freestyle relay team comprised of Noelting, Foutsitzis, Krantzberg, and Plaisted finished 5th out of 13 teams with a time of 3:11.10.
